Christmas NYC 2023
Last year, we did a staycation in the city. It was an awesome idea and we had lots of fun so we decided this year to repeat it and it did not disappoint. Week filled with shows, way too much good food, seeing old friends, a little shopping, and a few tears. It was awesome and there was too much to do but here is what it looked like:
Aunt Roseann's Service
We had a death in the family unfortunately. My Mom's oldest sister, Roseann was sick and had to be hospitalized and within a couple weeks of being moved into a nursing home, she had Covid, and then a secondary infection which caused her death. We had gone up to see her and my Uncle Jack, her husband. We visited my Aunt a couple times in the nursing home prior and the visits were lovely. We had such a nice time. So we were sad to get a call from my Uncle late in night that she had passed. She was the last of 8 children of my Mom's siblings so I felt like I was losing my Mom all over again. Poor Uncle Jack - they had been married for 50 years. The service was at St. Michaels in Glens Falls and we went up there to support Uncle Jack and got to see some of our other cousins there as well. We went up a couple weeks later to see my Uncle and have a nice lunch with him before he headed south to be closer to his sons. We don't know yet whether this will be a permanent move but I think it will be nice for him and give us an excuse to visit him in NC which we love as well. We said our temporary good byes. I had lived in Glens Falls briefly as a kid and went to Queensbury middle school. We revisited my old neighborhood, our old house had been torn down and replaced by a larger home and the middle school had gotten much bigger. Where there was nothing but woods there as a kid - there were now lots of streets and houses surrounding our old neighborhood. I felt sad for a lot of reasons seeing all these memories and change and we drove back home after we had lunch with Uncle Jack.
